My last post and my evaluation

Hey guys,

so this is it. The week of blogging is over and this is my last post. I think to blog for one week was really an interesting experience but nothing I would continue just for me. I was surprised that even someone read this blog who doesn’t have any connection to our course because I didn’t thought it to be so interesting. Sometimes, to be honest most of the time, I didn’t know what to write because there is so much information available online that you ge confused after a time. I do also think that blogging is a lot of work and to be forced to blog after writing exams doesn’t have the best results. But I have to say that I have a lot of respect for the “real” bloggers who blog constantly and really like what they are doing. In my opnion the internet is a very good way to share your opinion but I personally prefer personal contact with people I have to admit. But on the other hand you do have to recognize the importance of the internet and blogging also in the German campaign.

To be informed it is necessary to stay online but I don’t feel like the born blogger;) So this will probably be the last entry on this blog. I know it isn’t perfect but I really appreciated the experience in the online community.

Thanks a  lot best wishes

Sina

Sorry…

Political Culture in Germany

Hey Folks:)
todays topic is the political culture in Germany in general in comparison to the American and especially the blogging culture here.
At first I have to say that something like in the U.S. doesn’t exist in Germany. In America there are two main partys: the Republicans and the Democrats and in addition to them there are the Independants. In Germany there are CDU/CSU, SPD, die Grünen, die Linke and the FDP to tell the most important ones.  So Germany has a wide spectrum of partys with different orientations in politics.

So let’s come to the Blogging culture:

There are also political blogs in Germany. This is the CDU-blog and this a blog from and about the SPD.

Now I have to correct my myself : there are partyindependant blogs in Germany like this. The blog is about what currently happened in German politics and it’s really good. The tone is somehow sarcastic and it’s informative and entertaining at the same time.

And I have to correct myself again: the tone in the German blogosphere can be very harsh.

Here are the Top 100 Blogs in Germany if you want to have a look at it.

Sina

ps. I found this on the net, it’s a quite funny song about the CDU. Enjoy!

Are the U.S. a racist country?

When you have a look at this video you could think that it is. This video was filmed after a rally by Sarah Palin in Ohio. I think it is quite interesting to have a look at some the republican supporters and their opinion about Obama and what they actually do know about him. Have a look at it:)

On my personal blog “Conservatives Badlands” was published an article about this topic today
http://conservativebadlands.blogspot.com/2010/01/america-is-racist-country.html (yes it’s blue now!!!:)) Here gemimail says that America is a racist country because many people have voted for Obama only because he is black and that, in his opnion, also is racism. In my opnion this is not correct. People voted for Obama because he was able to motivate them, he is fresh and new and says that America can be something innovative and great. And thats what the people want to hear in these difficult times. On the other hand I have to agree that the colour of his skin might have helped him in some way. It stands for the new America where even a former slave (I know he doesnt have that background) can become the most powerful man in the world. You just have to have a look how the people celebrated him when he won the elections.

They celebrate him like popstar and thats definetly not just because he is black. He just knows how he has to behave and show himself. America loves him and his family and that has nothing to do with racism.

In my opnion the author of “Conservative Badlands” is somehow respectless. Some people really had and have to suffer from racism in the U.S. That it is a big topic shows the very long wikipedia entry http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Racism_in_the_United_States

Thats all for today:)

A comparison

Hello guys:)

as a topic for my post today I thought of comparing my “conservative badlands” blog and other republican blogs to liberal blog. Therefore I was looking for liberal blogs and found this page .

Here you find a list of several liberal blogs and you can have a  look at recent posts. I think this page is great to get an overview of a certain topic.  Some of the blogs we do know from class like the Huffington Post or Daily Kos. I think from the topics you can’t distinguish between conservative and liberal blogs. It is just the way how they talk about the topic and I think the names of the blogs are differently chosen. Conservative blogs are called “Hit and Run” or “Hot Air” in comparison to liberal names like “Think Progress” or “Talking Points Memo”. My personal impression is that the Conservatives are a little bit more aggressive in what they are doing online which also comes out in their name choice. Conservative blogs seem to me to be very serious in general. I didn’t find pages which somehow have a funny content. But I found this page on the liberal side… it intends to be funny if it is, is a personal decision. www.wonkette.com

All in all I have to say that to me conservative sides seem to be very strict and serious about their topics. Liberal blogs on the other side are also serious but their tone is different, to me it seems to be more funny. But that is just a personal impression

have a nice evening

Ps: I found a very nice picture of Scott Brown which definetly wasn’t published on a Republican side.

New post on “Conservative Badland”

Hello people:)

I just took a look at the “conservative badlands” website and found a brand new article

So let’s go on:) This article is about the “RINO” problem in America. RINO means “Republican in Name Only” and that is something Americans absolutely don’t like. I found also another  article about this

topic

Interestingly gemimail, the main blogger on “conservative badlands”, publishes the same articles on more than one website

Here he gets some comments which are really enthusiastic about his post. In my opnion this post is different to the others. Here he gives statistics about what he is saying which stresses what he just said. Another point is that RINO is not a very known word which shows that political informed people are his adressees.

In my opnion gemimail mail is a conservative blogger with a very good reputation. Other bloggers feel honored when they are mentioned in his blog. On the other hand it seems so that “conservative badland” is not visited very often becaue there are almost none comments.

so this is it, we’ll see what tomorrow brings…

Have  a nice evening

Something about the blog…

Good morning everyone:)

today I’m going to write something about the authors of “conservative badlands”.

His user  name is gemaimail . Most of the articles on the front page are written by him. He is a white male unfortunately we do not get to know anything about his background or career. This page just says that he is blogging since september 2008. He might be a part of the big wave of bloogers who started to participate during the presendential campaign 2008 because he had something to say.

His posts are a chronical of the victory of Scott Brown as senator in Massachusetts after the death of Ted Kennedy. His texts deal with the  Brown family, he even posts photos of them which seem to give the illusion of a perfect family. Unfortunately he is very subjective and doesn’t mention anything that could destroy this image, for example that there are photos with a half naked Scott Brown.

Interestingly gemimail also posted an article which fits the  topic of our course perfectly. It is about the reaction of the media to Brown’s victory in this absolutely democratic state.

This blog is very conservative subjective and not a reliable source for serious political studies, but it is very interesting if you want to understand the Republicans. During this week I’m going to compare this conservative blog with liberal blogs and we will see if they do it the same way or if they are more objective.

In addition to that I found an interesting video of someone who is really proud to be a Republican.

But I also want to show you the other side of it. This guy is so enthusiastic about his topic that I need to show him to you.

Have a nice weekend:)

Best wishes Sina

Hello Blogosphere

Hello to the Blogosphere:)

This is my first blog ever and I’m doing it  because I’m a student in the field of American studies at the TU Dortmund and take a course with the topic of blogging and its importance in the presedential campaign 2008 in America. So I introduce myself at first: my name is Sina and I’m 20 years old and live in Bochum.

Writing this blog is my final project, therefore I had to choose another blog and tell my opnion about it, make comaprisons and so on.

I chose the blog Conservative Badlands which is a blog that supports the conservative party. I took this one because I’m very interested in the party system in America. Personally I feel more attached to the Democrats but I thought it  could be quite interesting for a project to deal with very different opinions than my own.

For the next days I’m planning to refer to certain articles on “conservative badlands” and make comparisons to democratical sides like

http://thedemocraticdaily.com for example.

I think it is going to be a very interesting week and I’m going to learn a lot about the attitudes of the different partys.

So, let’s have a nice week, comment a lot and enjoy reading:)

Best wishes

Sina
